Clouded Leopards are colloquially called the “modern sabre-tooth” as they have the longest incisor to body ratio of any cat. The Latin name of sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps) translates to “short-headed rope-dancer”. While the pelican doesn’t have a cute nickname, it appears on the national flag of Louisiana and the whole state is nicknamed “The Pelican State”..
