The beautiful turquoise hued Eurasian kingfisher is the only one of the vast kingfisher family to be found dipping in and out of our rivers and streams. If you don’t pay attention you might mistake their dive for a sudden sun reflection off the water that’s how tiny and fast they are!

The Drippy Bird series aims to portray the striking beauty of each of the birds in intricate painterly and sketched detail. The hints of delicate botanicals offset with the solid colour circle on a pristine while background make these instantly impactful, on their own as well as in a set.

This kingfisher commands a palette of deep teal and peacock blue, warm burnt orange and amber, soft cream-white, and a bold marigold circle that anchors the whole composition – a mix that is simultaneously vivid and grounded, with warm-toned orange pulling the temperature firmly away from cool. Walls in a warm off-white or soft stone work with the cream in the bird’s throat and let the teal and orange do the talking; a deep teal-green takes an analogous route, wrapping the print in its own richness and making the orange plumage sing; or lean into the complementary tension already present in the image and go for a burnt-terracotta or warm clay wall, which mirrors the amber breast and throws the cool blue feathers into sharp, satisfying relief. This print sits most naturally in spaces that belong to contemporary maximalism, eclectic bohemian, bold Scandi, or graphic mid-century modern interiors – anywhere a strong, clean composition is paired with unexpected colour. It suits a kitchen, a home office, or a reading corner particularly well: places where you want something focused and alive without being restless. Part of the Drippy Birds collection, which marries the delicacy of fine detail with the boldness of vibrant colour, it pairs naturally with other prints from the series for a gallery wall – framed together, they create the harmonious ensemble the collection is designed to produce. A considered gift for bird lovers, nature illustrators, or anyone furnishing a first home with confidence.

Printed with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® – a museum-grade cotton paper with a subtle felt texture – the surface is fully matte and glare-free, which means it reads just as well under a pendant light as it does in natural daylight, and it suits both slim contemporary frames and more ornate vintage ones without the print fighting its surroundings. At A4 (21 × 29.7 cm) or A3 (29.7 × 42 cm) it works tucked onto a deep shelf, propped on a mantlepiece, or slotted into a curated gallery wall where the marigold circle holds its own against neighbouring frames; at A2 (42 × 59.4 cm) or A1 (59.4 × 84.1 cm) it becomes a proper focal point above a desk or beside a staircase, the bird’s detail becoming more absorbing the closer you stand; at A0 (84.1 × 118.9 cm) the composition is large enough to anchor an entire wall in a hallway or open-plan living space, the teal and orange filling the room with colour. This print is also available as a ready-to-hang canvas measuring 28 × 40 inches (70 × 100 cm), requiring no frame.
