Painterly Poppies is inspired by….uhm….poppies, you guessed it. Most of all the magnificence of their unruly curling stems. Brought to you in a very loose oil-painterly style.
Each image can be framed any which way up, giving you lots of options to play with: growing up for a more traditional style, upside down or sideways wonderful when paired with abstract or typography prints!
This red poppy version features 3 undulating stems with a delicate flower in full bloom.
Warm terracotta-red petals, deep olive-green stems, and a golden-yellow centre pull this print firmly into the amber half of the colour wheel, while the dusty salmon-pink background softens everything just enough to keep it liveable rather than loud. That warmth means it settles naturally against walls painted in burnt clay, soft apricot, or a warm off-white with a peachy undertone – any of these echo the background’s own salmon tones and let the reds breathe without fighting them. For contrast, a deep sage or muted olive-green wall picks up the curling stems directly and gives the whole composition somewhere to anchor, while a warm mid-taupe sits neutrally without pulling the palette cool. In terms of style, the loose, gestural brushwork and the unruly, winding stems make this a natural fit for maximalist, Mediterranean, earthy organic, and eclectic bohemian interiors – anywhere a considered splash of drama reads as character rather than noise. It works hardest in a living room above a sofa or sideboard, in a kitchen where it echoes terracotta tiles and dried-herb warmth, or in a bedroom as a focal point that feels energising without being restless. This print belongs to the Painterly Poppies collection, which is, as the name promises, all about poppies – most of all the magnificence of their unruly curling stems, rendered in a very loose oil-painterly style; pairing it with other prints from the collection makes for a gallery wall with real coherence and movement. It would make a considered gift for anyone who loves bold florals, earthy colour, or the feeling of a garden brought indoors.
Printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag®, a museum-grade cotton paper carrying archival pigment inks, the surface has a subtle felt texture and a matte, glare-free finish that reads equally well under a slim black metal frame or a chunky gilded one. At A4 (21 × 29.7 cm) or A3 (29.7 × 42 cm) the print slots neatly onto a shelf or into a gallery-wall arrangement where the poppies’ sinuous stems can play off neighbouring pieces; at A2 (42 × 59.4 cm) it becomes a proper statement, confident enough to hang alone above a console or beside a doorway. Moving up to A1 (59.4 × 84.1 cm), the loose painterly marks open up and the composition commands a wall, while at A0 (84.1 × 118.9 cm) it anchors an entire room – living room or hallway – with the kind of presence usually reserved for original paintings. This print is also available as a 28 × 40 inch (70 × 100 cm) canvas, ready to hang with no frame needed.
