This series is inspired by a chat over coffee sat in a small local Edinburgh park surrounded by blooming trees and tulips. Whilst talking about pandemic strangeness, personal worries, fears, and just plain randomness our eyes kept wandering to the flowering nature around us. The series aims to capture the thought processes, emotions and impressions of natural and general beauty the encounter left me with. The pieces work very well sat next to each other, connected by the organic brushstrokes.
Coral pink forms the warm ground of this print, joined by sky blue and deep teal ribbons, a burst of orange-red in the abstract loops, soft sage green in the curling stems, and blush white in the tulip petals – together they create a mood that is energetic yet botanical, joyful without tipping into naivety. Because the palette is anchored by those warm coral and orange-red tones, walls in terracotta, warm cream, or a dusty apricot will draw out its heat and feel cohesive; for a more dynamic scheme, a deep teal or petrol blue wall – pulled directly from the ribbon strokes – creates a bold analogous contrast that lets the blush tulips sing. Cooler off-whites with a barely-there pink undertone work as a gentler neutral that honours the print’s warmth without competing.
