This series is inspired by a chat over coffee sat in a small local Edinburgh park surrounded by blooming trees and tulips. Whilst talking about pandemic strangeness, personal worries, fears and just plain randomness our eyes kept wandering to the flowering nature around us. The series aims to capture the thought processes, emotions, and impressions of natural and general beauty the encounter left me with. The pieces work very well sat next to each other, connected by the organic brushstrokes.
This print arrives with a palette that commands a room: a vivid cerulean blue fills the background, warm orange and golden yellow pulse through the central tulip, a deep aubergine ribbon cuts diagonally across the composition, and muted peach and soft mint lift the whole arrangement without cooling it down. Because the palette is anchored by warm oranges and golds set against a cool cerulean, it creates its own contrast internally – which means the print reads well against walls painted in a warm off-white with a cream or butter undertone, a deep teal that echoes the background’s blue-green temperature, or a rich terracotta that picks up the orange directly.
