Arthur’s Seat and the Crags are group of hills in Edinburgh just east of the city centre, overlooking our lovely little studio. This is part of a series of original illustrations featuring well (and sometimes lesser) known Edinburgh streets and monuments.
Anchored by warm sandstone and tawny ochre in the densely layered rooflines, with accents of verdigris copper, slate grey and a wash of soft olive-green across the hillside, this print reads as a deeply warm, earthy composition – the kind that settles a room rather than sharpening it. Those warm yellow-brown undertones mean it sits naturally against walls in soft barley, aged linen or pale terracotta, which echo the stonework without competing with it.
