All the collages in this series are comprised of my own illustrations, vintage botanical illustrations and close-up shots of textures from my own photo library.
Painted in a palette of warm chestnut and caramel browns, deep espresso, soft cream, mossy sage green and touches of blush pink, this dapper hare has the gentle, slightly eccentric charm of a Victorian storybook portrait. Those earthy, botanical tones sit beautifully against sage green, olive, warm white or putty-coloured walls, and hold their own against darker, moodier shades like forest green or deep brown where the cream background lifts the whole piece. It is a natural fit for English country, cottagecore, grandmillennial and eclectic maximalist interiors — anywhere a little wit and heritage character are welcome. From a top-hatted fox and impeccably tailored badger to a solemn cat, dapper hare and some decidedly eccentric ladies, each character has their own personality, story and sense of occasion. Florals, faded textures and fragments of the past surround them, creating portraits that feel at once nostalgic, theatrical and wonderfully strange.
Each artwork is built as a collage from my own original illustrations, vintage botanical illustrations, and close-up photographs of textures from my personal photo library.
