All the collages in this series are comprised of my own illustrations, vintage botanical illustrations and close-up shots of textures from my own photo library.
The palette here is a considered one: rust and burnt orange fur against a dusty pink, almost mauve background, with the deep charcoal of the top hat and tailcoat grounding it all, lifted by cream, sage green leaves and a soft peach carnation at the lapel. Those colours sit beautifully on warm neutral walls — off-white, mushroom, blush pink — and come alive against darker drama too, from forest green to inky charcoal, where the fox’s ginger coat glows. Stylistically, this is a natural fit for dark academia, grandmillennial and eclectic maximalist interiors, and it works just as well in a modern Victorian scheme with picture rails and moody paintwork. From a top-hatted fox and impeccably tailored badger to a solemn cat, dapper hare and some decidedly eccentric ladies, each character has their own personality, story and sense of occasion. Florals, faded textures and fragments of the past surround them, creating portraits that feel at once nostalgic, theatrical and wonderfully strange.
Each artwork is built as a collage from my own original illustrations, vintage botanical illustrations, and close-up photographs of textures from my personal photo library.
