N is for Nephrite.
Nephrite is one of two different mineral species called jade. Nephrite jade has been a hugely popular mineral for jewellery in ornamental purposes since early Neolithic times. Nephrite can be found in a translucent white to yellow Form which is called mutton fat jade in China.
The Gemstone Alphabet combines a minimalist aesthetic of bold striped initial letters with geometrically striking and unusual gemstones and minerals. Science..but sexy!
Forest green, cool white, and deep charcoal black are the dominant notes in this print, with the nephrite specimens introducing quieter tones of pale sage and stone grey. The overall mood is sharp and considered – geometric black-and-white striping anchored by the cool, mineral richness of jade. That cool temperature means the print sits beautifully against walls in deep bottle green or soft sage, which echo its dominant hue as an analogous pairing; alternatively, a warm off-white or pale putty wall draws out the stone-grey undertones and softens the contrast without dulling it. For those who want the striping to do its full graphic work, a charcoal or dark slate wall creates a tonal near-match that lets the green specimens hold the eye. Part of the Gemstone Alphabet collection – a series that pairs bold typographic geometry with photographic mineral specimens – this print carries the collection’s characteristic balance between graphic clarity and natural texture; it pairs with other letters from the series for a cohesive gallery wall. Style-wise it suits interiors described as graphic maximalist, contemporary botanical, mid-century modern, or dark eclectic. A home office, study, or reading room makes a natural home for it, and it works well as a considered gift for anyone with a passion for geology, typography, or both.
Printed with archival pigment inks on Enhanced Matte art paper – a smooth, gallery-grade stock with a soft, glare-free surface – the finish reads as museum-grade without any of the reflective glare that catches the light in a busy room. The matte surface is equally at home in a slim black or natural oak frame and in an ornate gilded or antique frame, making it flexible across a range of aesthetics. At A4 the print works well propped on a shelf or slotted into a gallery wall alongside other letters from the collection; A3 and A2 bring it into its own as a standalone piece above a desk or sideboard; the largest size, A1, has the scale to anchor a feature wall or hold its own above a wide sofa or bed. This print is also available as a ready-to-hang canvas print at 28×40 inches (70×100 cm), requiring no frame.
