Chromatose is a celebration of colour in it’s purest most joyful form and the emotions it evokes. Inspired by the things that come to live in my head when I close my eyes and think of a specific colour – bright sparks of ideas and inspiration set against bold brushstrokes, and shades that blend from one sentiment into the next.
No.01/Lilac: Innocent, playful fresh lilac, forever linked with the sweet creamy scent of the plant of the same name.
Soft lilac, warm peach, coral pink, vivid magenta, deep violet, and a flash of acid yellow – these are the colours that animate this print, and they guide every pairing decision. The palette sits at the meeting point of warm and cool: the peach and coral push warm, while the lilac and violet pull back towards cool, giving the composition an unusual versatility. Walls in a pale warm white with peachy or blush undertones let the coral and magenta glow without competition, while a deeper dusty lavender or soft mauve – analogous neighbours of the violet and lilac – create a tonal, immersive feel. For contrast, a washed sage or muted eucalyptus green sits near-complementary to the magenta and holds its own against the acid yellow accent without overpowering the gentler lilac ground.
The fluid, expressive mark-making and luminous, emotion-driven colour place this print naturally within maximalist, new-romantic, and contemporary abstract interiors, and it would not look out of place in a space touched by dreamy surrealist or neo-pop sensibility.
