C is for Cherry.
While we associate traditions about cherry blossoms with Japan and its annual Hanami festival, the gift of a cherry tree is said to symbolise good fortune and happiness in the days to come.
The Botanical Alphabet is inspired by old scientific botanical illustrations and categories of olden day Explorers and Naturists. Paired with modern outlined sans serif letters and bold colour blocks, it has a much more contemporary feel while still keeping a hint of the much loved illustration genre of the past.
The Botanical Alphabet series is also available as greeting cards, so you can send a very personal card for any occasion featuring your friend’s initial.
Dark crimson and deep burgundy dominate this print, warm and richly saturated, anchored by a blush-pink diagonal band that softens the composition considerably. The cherry branch above brings in forest green and earthy brown, while the monochrome botanical sketch below adds a quiet grey-white contrast. That combination of warm reds, soft pink, and cool green gives the print a distinctive balance – neither purely warm nor purely cool, but grounded in nature. Walls in dusty rose or warm blush will pick up the diagonal band and create a tonal, enveloping feel; deep off-white with a warm ivory undertone lets the crimson letter read boldly without competing; and a muted sage green, drawn from the cherry leaves, creates an analogous harmony that feels considered and botanical in character. For a bolder move, a dark charcoal wall with warm brown undertones will make the blush and burgundy sing. This print suits kitchens, dining rooms, and playrooms with personality – anywhere that benefits from a subject that is both cheerful and a little sophisticated. It fits naturally into a vintage-meets-modern interior, a maximalist-botanical scheme, a cottagecore kitchen, or a Scandi-influenced space that welcomes one strong accent. Part of the Botanical Alphabet collection – a fusion of vintage scientific illustration and clean modern typography, where each letter pairs with a plant sharing its initial – it sits beautifully alongside other prints from the series on a gallery wall, spelling initials or building a fuller alphabet display. It makes a thoughtful gift for anyone whose name begins with C, or for a cherry lover with an eye for design.
This print is produced using archival pigment inks on Enhanced Matte art paper, a smooth gallery-grade stock with a soft, glare-free surface that earns it a place alongside museum-grade works on paper. The matte finish reads equally well in a slim black or natural wood modern frame and in an ornate gilt or dark-stained vintage frame, with no glare to contend with at any angle. At A4 the print is ideal for a shelf ledge, a small gallery wall grouping, or a desk; at A3 it holds its own as a standalone piece above a sideboard or in a kitchen nook; A2 works as a confident statement on a dining room or hallway wall; and the A1 size carries enough presence to anchor a larger room entirely. This print is also available as a ready-to-hang canvas print at 28×40 inches (70×100 cm), requiring no frame.
