Botanical Alphabet U Matte Art Print

U is for Uva Ursi.

Uva Ursi literally means grape of the bear, as the fruit is commonly eaten by…you guessed it – bears! Native Americans called the plant Kinnikinnick meaning smoking mixture because mixed with other bits and bobs was used to smoke in pipes. The plant was also used in traditional medicine.

The Botanical Alphabet is inspired by old scientific botanical illustrations and categories of olden day Explorers and Naturists. Paired with modern outlined sans serif letters and bold colour blocks, it has a much more contemporary feel while still keeping a hint of the much loved illustration genre of the past.

The Botanical Alphabet series is also available as greeting cards, so you can send a very personal card for any occasion featuring your friend’s initial.

Coral-pink and soft peach dominate this print – warm, red-leaning tones that immediately establish a sunny, optimistic mood – balanced by the fresh mid-greens of the botanical sprays and grounded by small accents of deep cranberry red and soft off-white. Because the palette runs almost entirely warm, it performs beautifully against walls painted in a pale terracotta or a warm greige with peachy undertones, where the analogous relationship draws the whole room into easy harmony. For something with more presence, a deep sage or muted olive wall provides a near-complementary contrast to the coral letterform without fighting the greens in the illustration – the botanicals simply blur into the wall and the letter steps forward. Cream or warm white with a yellow-leaning rather than blue-leaning base ties the neutrals to the print’s temperature and stops the coral reading harsh. The overall mood – playful, naturalistic, touched with something vintage and curious – makes this print a natural fit for botanical maximalist, mid-century modern with a soft organic edge, eclectic vintage, and contemporary Scandi-warm interiors. It belongs in a kitchen where the plant subject feels at home, a children’s room or study personalised by the letter U, or a reading nook that wants a little life on the wall. Part of the Botanical Alphabet collection, which fuses the charm of vintage scientific illustration with bold modern typography across each letter of the alphabet, it pairs with other prints from the series to build a gallery wall that is both educational and genuinely stylish. As a gift, it suits anyone who loves nature, a keen gardener, or anyone whose name, child’s name, or favourite word begins with U.

Printed using archival pigment inks on Enhanced Matte art paper – a smooth, gallery-grade stock with a soft, glare-free surface – the finish reads cleanly under artificial light and earns it the description museum-grade without any stretch. That same matte surface sits comfortably behind both slim contemporary frames and more ornate vintage mouldings, since there is no sheen to compete with gilding or polished metal. At A4 the print fits a shelf, a mantelpiece arrangement, or a slot in a gallery wall without overwhelming its neighbours; A3 lifts it to a confident standalone piece above a desk or bedside table; A2 works as a genuine focal point in a kitchen or hallway; and at A1 the coral letterform is large enough to anchor a full wall in a living room or playroom. This print is also available as a 28×40 inch (70×100 cm) canvas, ready to hang with no frame needed.
