The Botanical Alphabet is inspired by old scientific botanical illustrations and categories of olden day Explorers and Naturists. Soft dusty mauve, warm ivory, deep brownish-burgundy, muted olive green, and touches of amber and pale straw – these are the colours that give the Botanical Alphabet W its quietly sophisticated character. The palette sits at the cool-to-neutral boundary, with the mauve and burgundy carrying faintly cool undertones while the ivory and amber pull it gently warm. On the wall, a soft grey-white with the faintest warm cast lets the ivory and straw tones in the water lily breathe without competition. For a harmonious tonal scheme, a dusky muted mauve – an analogous neighbour of the print’s own lavender-grey background – wraps the composition in quiet coherence. If the room can carry contrast, a deep warm terracotta plays off the cool mauve and amplifies the amber stamens at the flower’s heart.
