Gabbiano means ‘seagull’ in Italian. This establishment used to have a different name, but since the seagulls kept nicking people’s precious pies, the owners decided to join forces with the feathered fiends and turn their restaurant into a dining adventure of sorts. At least, that’s what I imagined when I had the idea for this piece 😉
Hôtel Dodo is a place, or better a tiny universe, that exists in my head allowing me to mind travel. Not dissimilar to the concept of a mind palace that makes remembering things easier.
My little universe is all about moments of calm, appreciating the little things, sun soaked lazy holiday lunches, beautifully curated table settings, and overall that “nothing to do, nowhere to go” energy.
Each setting invites the viewer to take a seat and the table, focus on the calm before them and be transported elsewhere for a little while.

A sun-drunk pizzeria lunch, gatecrashed by a hopeful gull: this print runs on tomato red and blush pink gingham, cobalt blue plate rims, basil green, the burnt orange glow of a spritz and a warm honey-wood tabletop. That cheerful, saturated palette sits beautifully against white or warm cream walls, where the red-and-pink check does all the talking, and it holds its own equally well on olive green, terracotta or a deep navy that echoes the plates. Stylists would file it under Mediterranean-inspired interiors, dopamine decor, retro bistro style and playful eclectic maximalism — anywhere colour and appetite are welcome.
