Balmy evenings under palm trees, sitting by the fire whisky in hand. Ah, the Scottish Riviera. It’s not a made up place, just not the best known destination when thinking of Scotland.
Hôtel Dodo is a place, or better a tiny universe, that exists in my head allowing me to mind travel. Not dissimilar to the concept of a mind palace that makes remembering things easier.
My little universe is all about moments of calm, appreciating the little things, sun soaked lazy holiday lunches, beautifully curated table settings, and overall that “nothing to do, nowhere to go” energy.
Each setting invites the viewer to take a seat and the table, focus on the calm before them and be transported elsewhere for a little while.

Burnt amber, deep mahogany brown, smouldering copper, slate blue-grey, and the warm ivory-cream of open flame – these are the tones that give this print its after-dark richness, and they point clearly to the walls that will flatter it most. Because the palette runs warm throughout, with bronze and terracotta undertones anchoring every element, it sits beautifully against a deep slate or blue-grey wall – a near-complementary pairing that makes the amber and copper glow as if lit from within. For a more enveloping, tonal approach, a moody charcoal-brown or dark espresso wall draws out the mahogany depths without competition, creating exactly the kind of gathered, intimate atmosphere the scene suggests. If you prefer a lighter room, a warm greige or stone-white with yellow undertones will honour the print’s warmth rather than fight it; cool bright whites would flatten it. In terms of style, this print is a natural fit for a sophisticated maximalist interior, a dark and moody bar or library aesthetic, a mid-century lounge, or a grown-up coastal scheme that swaps beach-house pastels for something with more depth. Hang it in a home bar, a dining room, or a living room beside the drinks cabinet – anywhere that carries the spirit of a considered evening in. It belongs to the Hôtel Dodo collection, an imaginary resort built around retro holiday nostalgia and "nothing to do, nowhere to go" calm, and it pairs handsomely with other prints from the collection for a gallery wall that feels like a curated boutique hotel corridor. It would make a genuinely good gift for a whisky enthusiast, a keen host, or anyone who treats their home as a place of serious pleasure.
Printed with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® – a museum-grade cotton paper with a subtle felt texture – the surface is fully matte and glare-free, which means it reads well in low lamplight and suits both the slim dark frames a mid-century room demands and the heavier gilded or lacquered frames that a maximalist or bar-library setting might call for. The A4 is a considered size for a shelf vignette or a tighter gallery wall grouping; the A3 holds its own above a sideboard or drinks trolley; the A2 steps up into genuine statement territory, strong enough to anchor a chimney breast or the wall behind a dining table; the A1 and A0 are commanding at room scale, suited to generous walls where the amber firelight and dark ground can properly expand and fill the space. This print is also available as a ready-to-hang canvas print at 28×40 inches (70×100 cm), requiring no frame.
