R is for Rose.
In the Victorian times and the language of flowers called Floriagraphy, Roses had many different meanings: Red: I love you Yellow: Friendship, Joy White: Innocence, Charm Pale Pink: Grace Dark Crimson: Mourning Dark Pink: Thankfulness …and many, many more!
The Botanical Alphabet is inspired by old scientific botanical illustrations and categories of olden day Explorers and Naturists. Paired with modern outlined sans serif letters and bold colour blocks, it has a much more contemporary feel while still keeping a hint of the much loved illustration genre of the past.
Warm coral-salmon and deep crimson rose petals sit at the heart of this print, softened by blush pink in the geometric colour block and grounded by the fresh mid-greens of layered botanical leaves – with a ghost of pencil-sketch grey lending just enough vintage restraint to stop the composition feeling purely decorative. Those warm coral and blush tones carry distinctly peachy, red undertones, which makes them natural companions to walls painted in dusty terracotta or warm greige; an analogous move that lets the print breathe without disappearing. If you want the deep red rose to sing, hang it against a soft sage or eucalyptus green – a near-complementary relationship with the crimson that the foliage in the print itself already endorses. Cooler neutral walls in off-white with the faintest warm tint prevent the coral from fighting its background while keeping the overall mood fresh. The print genuinely suits botanical maximalism, romantic vintage, modern eclectic, and contemporary Scandi-warm interiors – any scheme that values the tension between careful illustration and clean graphic form. A bedroom or reading nook is the natural home for its intimate, considered mood; it also works beautifully in a hallway where a single bold piece can greet visitors with colour and character. Part of the Botanical Alphabet collection – a series that pairs vintage-style botanical illustration with bold modern letterforms – the R print sits effortlessly alongside other letters from the collection on a gallery wall, and it makes a particularly personal gift for anyone whose name begins with that initial.
Printed with archival pigment inks on Enhanced Matte art paper – a smooth, gallery-grade stock chosen for its soft, glare-free surface – the finish reads as quietly museum-grade rather than showy, which means it sits as comfortably in a slim oak frame as in an ornate gilded one. The A4 suits a shelf arrangement or the smaller panels of a gallery wall; the A3 works as a confident standalone above a bedside table or desk; the A2 carries a room on its own, ideal above a sofa or mantelpiece; and the A1 is an anchoring statement piece for a generous wall in a living room or hallway. This print is also available as a 28×40 inch (70×100 cm) canvas print, ready to hang with no frame required.
