CataTonic is joining the Hôtel Dodo universe for its 10 year anniversary!

Prudently paired with a classic young Jenever. Jenever is the Dutch precursor to the nowadays classic gin. Jenever, like gin, uses predominantly juniper as main botanical but blends it with a whisky-like malt wine, giving it a signature taste.

Keeping the setting true to its origins, the setting is full of Dutch classics, like delft style hand painted tiles, stroopwafels, and some Hagleslag (chocolate sprinkles on buttered bread). Pour yourself a glass and take it all in!

Or do yourself a favour and explore more cat-a-tonic 10th Anniversary delights here.

Delft-tile blue and warm cream anchor the palette here, cooled by the milky taupe of the jenever bottle and lifted by touches of amber brown and a burnt orange accent – with the whole scene sitting on a blush-white surface that keeps the mood quietly sunny rather than stark. That warm-leaning, muted quality means the print looks especially settled against walls in soft chalky white, dusty terracotta, or a warm greige – each shares the painting’s creamy undertone and avoids competing with its carefully observed still-life detail. For a more considered contrast, a faded denim blue on the wall will echo the Delft tilework directly, pulling the scene together in an analogous tonal harmony that feels deliberately Dutch. The print’s subject – jenever, stroopwafels, hagelslag, a cat’s tail sneaking into frame – makes it a natural fit for a kitchen, a dining room, or an informal bar area, somewhere convivial and a little tongue-in-cheek. In terms of style, it sits comfortably within maximalist, vintage eclectic, European farmhouse, and playful contemporary interiors. It belongs to the Hôtel Dodo collection, an imaginary resort built around retro holiday nostalgia and joyous calm, and it pairs beautifully with other prints from the collection for a gallery wall that carries that "nothing to do, nowhere to go" energy throughout a room. It would make a very good gift for anyone with an affection for the Netherlands, a love of illustrated food and drink, or simply a kitchen that deserves something with personality.

Printed using archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® – a museum-grade cotton paper with a subtle felt texture – the surface is fully matte and glare-free, meaning it reads just as well under kitchen spotlights as in softer ambient light, and suits both slim modern frames and ornate vintage ones without favouring either. The A4 size works well propped on a shelf or slotted into a gallery wall arrangement; A3 and A2 hold their own as standalone pieces on a kitchen or dining-room wall; A1 makes a confident statement above a sideboard or in a larger kitchen-diner; and the A0 is large enough to anchor an entire wall, the Delft tile background filling the space with real presence. This print is also available as a ready-to-hang canvas print measuring 28×40 inches (70×100 cm), which needs no frame and suits a more relaxed, informal setting perfectly.

Hôtel Dodo is a place, or better a tiny universe, that exists in my head allowing me to mind travel. Not dissimilar to the concept of a mind palace that makes remembering things easier.
My little universe is all about moments of calm, appreciating the little things, sun soaked lazy holiday lunches, beautifully curated table settings, and overall that “nothing to do, nowhere to go” energy.
Each setting invites the viewer to take a seat and the table, focus on the calm before them and be transported elsewhere for a little while.
